Thomas De Ghent (Vacansoleil-DCM) impressed the cycling world with a daring attack out of the breakaway on the 2012 Giro D'Italia's penultimate Stage 20 (Val Di Sole to Passo Dello Stelvio). His win, and subsequent gains in time, on that day propelled him up the General Classification. His time trial the next day earned him the third spot on the final podium. Not only did De Ghent win fans with his bravado over the Motirolo and up the Stelvio, but he proved he is a rider to watch closely in the future.
A view from the grandstands - this is the moment when Ryder Hesjedal finished the 2012 Giro D'Italia. He had to wait for Purito Rodriguez to finish to be assured that he's won the whole race but as you can see, when he was on the bike, he wasn't leaving any single fraction of a second to chance.
