  2. Bunaco started off as an endeavour to make use of a previously mostly wasted wood material. The company developed a method of cutting beechwood into thin strips about 1mm thick. This helps the wood to dry. The Bunaco method moulds these same wood strips to make a very wide range of objects of various shapes and sizes.

Depending on the width of the strips and the amount of the offset between each ring of the wood, Bunaco products can be very solid or translucent, appear contemporary and industrial or traditional and natural, and create a cool or warm ambience.

There are few limitations, it seems, to the design potential of Bunaco. And, perhaps most interestingly, the Bunaco method generates extremely little waste. If a mistake is made at any step during the manufacturing process virtually everything used can be reused -- nothing is thrown out.

As a result, Bunaco can constantly test new designs, shapes, products and ideas. Some work, while others do not. But what does not, not only gets recycled into better ideas, but recycled back into the original parts. It seems that the best designs are not only functional and beautiful, but completely sustainable.

  3. Bunaco has found great ways to use a raw material that was previously regarded as difficult to work with: the Japanese beech. The wood is cut into thin strips about 1mm thick to help it to dry, and then it comes to life in an astonishing array of beautiful products.

The Bunaco Stool is a sleek and elegant contemporary classic: tough yet light. You can choose between two sizes, three wood colours and six seat colours. The stool should not be washed using water, but rather wiped with a soft damp cloth. Made to order.

Bunaco Lamps offer a translucent visual appeal reminiscent of the gentle light of dusk. It should be noted that the model on display was made to Japanese specifications and may need to be adapted for use in other countries.

Bunaco's bowls, another sensual delight, make a subtle but significant contribution to the visual quality of any interior. As long as care is taken to avoid abrasives and scouring, the bowls can be washed like most other dishes. Should not be left soaking, or placed in a microwave or automatic dishwasher.

The intriguing asymmetrical bottle cooler embodies the best in Bunaco style. Care requirements are similar to those for the bowls. Should not be left soaking, or placed in a microwave or automatic dishwasher. Made to order.

Bunaco's speakers are simply outstanding, with their sleek styling and superior sound making them a home audio aficionado's dream come true. Care requirements are similar to those for the stool, but special care should be taken to make sure a speaker does not fall from a perch, as it is precision-made and delicate. Made to order.

All the items on display are coated in urethane, and all items are generally ready for delivery no later than 21 working days (Mon-Fri) after receiving an order.

Some Bunaco items are in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
