My brother Chris and I shot this film with a pocket-sized digital camera. The decision to make the project a silent film came partially out of the absence of any sound equipment, but also because of the self-explanatory nature of the content. Although the film was primarily done with improv performances, I did write a two page production script.
After watching Michael Rapaport’s documentary “Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest” last year I was inspired to create a music oriented doc.

Nas' debut album Illmatic was released to a staggering amount of anticipation. Like most purists at the time, I too was caught up in the hype. This short film, structured through the use of stills, is a snapshot of a period now foreign to the present.
(By the way, the phone number that appears on the promo cassette is no longer a business number. Out of curiosity I checked. Please refrain from bothering the new owner of that set of digits.)
