1. Following the recent events that took place in Syria, people all over the world used to see this country like it presented by media. I have been twice there and can assure you Syria is a wonderful land with its age-old traditions and unique culture. First, I came to Syria together with my friends in August 2010. That's exactly when I shot my first video about the place. Later Blake Whitman showed it on vimeo.com HD channel. The movie was warmly met and watched by a great number of people, what gave me an opportunity to take part in another project in Syria in February this year. It was a documentary about the country made in 20 days. I was DOP in a second unit. The video you see I made together with my friend from my Syrian shot here, at home. I wish people remembered Syria a great and marvelous country like it really is! Thank you!

  3. EXILIOS I_2010
    La pieza audiovisual “EXILIOS I”, forma parte de la investigación plástica "EXILIOS. Entre fuga y origen". Este proyecto artístico se centra sobre el "sujeto desplazado", reflexionando sobre la relación significativa entre la experiencia personal y la historia colectiva de la que se hace partícipe.
    La obra audiovisual EXILIOS I habla sobre la pérdida del sentido en un complejo modo de in-habitar, donde se difuminan las fronteras entre lo familiar y lo extraño, produciendo desamparo, enajenación y ambigüedad, que representan el conflicto en nuestra noción postmoderna del lugar. Se crea un escenario extraño y fantasmal, a la vez que perturbador, trasladando al espectador a un espacio real, para transportarlo más tarde a una no-realidad dibujada, provocada por la alienación del sujeto y su no-permanencia a ningún lugar.
    Como metáfora y punto de partida se ha utilizado la ciudad como un complejo fenómeno cultural y un modo poético de contemplar el espacio como contenedor de la memoria.
    En ese sentido se ha representado una particular interacción con el entorno urbano. En la obra, la ciudad se percibe como si fuera una zona amenazadora, extraída de una pesadilla, un lugar a veces ajeno y hostil, donde el personaje desprotegido en su desnudez, busca y revela un nuevo sentido del espacio urbano, a la vez que está configurado por él.
    La protagonista es un ser alienado que vive dramáticamente el exilio, el contraste entre el propio mundo íntimo y privado y la ciudad... en un inútil intento de hacerse con el entorno urbano, de integrarse en él. En su sueño/pesadilla, ella intenta familiarizarse, apropiarse, integrarse en el espacio, hacer de él su “hogar”, para no sentir esa enajenación y vacío, aún sabiendo desde el principio que ese intento siempre estará abocado al naufragio.
    Se ha creado un universo flotante, situado en un lugar de ensueño en el que la desnudez y el ambiente extraño y onírico no dotan al personaje de una identidad fija, dibujando así, una imagen universal del ser humano, situado en una atemporalidad. Todo cobra un aire fantasmal, convirtiéndose en una irrealidad con la que se perciben las cosas y las personas que nos rodean...

    The audiovisual work “EXILES I” talks about the loss of meaning in a complex mode of in-dwelling, which blurs the boundaries between what we perceive as familiar and what as being strange, producing helplessness, alienation and ambiguity, which, in turn, represents the conflict in our postmodern notion of Place. It creates a strange and ghostly scene, while disturbing, moving the viewer to a real space only to transport them later to a non-reality drawn, caused by the alienation of the subject and its state of impermanence to any place.
    The city, as a metaphor and a starting point, has been used as a complex cultural phenomenon and a poetic way of looking at the space as a container of memory.
    In that sense it has represented a special interaction with the urban environment.
    In this work, the city is perceived like a threatening area, extracted from a nightmare, sometimes alien and hostile, where the character, vulnerable in his nakedness, finds and reveals a new sense of urban spaces, while at the same time, he has been moulded by it.
    The protagonist is an alienated being who lives the exile, the contrast between the very private and intimate world and the city in a dramatic way ... in a futile attempt to take hold of the urban environment, to integrate in it. In her nightmare, she is trying to feel more at ease at that space, to make it hers, to integrate herself into it, to make it her "home", in order to avoid the feeling of alienation and emptiness, knowing from the start that this attempt always will be doomed to shipwreck.
    A floating universe, located in a dream, has been created, where the nudity, the weird and dreamlike atmosphere don’t entitle the character with a fixed identity, drawing thus a universal human image, located in a timelessness. Everything becomes ghostly and turns into “unreality” with which one perceives things and people around...
