1. This is an early release, unofficial video from the Telematic Transform Concert, organized by Sarah Weaver, which took place on April 23rd 2011 in five cities (New York, San Diego, Seattle, Irvine, and Montreal).

The video and audio were recorded at the Montreal location - Concordia University's Music Department (Electroacoustics).

Telematic music is real-time performance via the internet by musicians in different geographic locations. "Transform" was explored in this concert of premiere pieces with renowned musicians through the concept of node as point of multiple intersections. “Node 111” for solo percussion expresses this through multiplicity of self. “Node 4x4” works with a quartet in New York and a geographically spatialized quartet between San Diego, Irvine, Montreal, and Seattle.

    “Node 4x4”
New York: Oliver Lake, saxophone, Hadi Eldebek, oud, Dave Taylor, bass trombone, Gerry Hemingway, percussion, Sarah Weaver, composer/conductor

    San Diego: Mark Dresser, bass

Irvine: Michael Dessen, trombone and electronics

    Montreal: Eldad Tsabary, laptop

Seattle: Stuart Dempster, trombone, didjeridu, conch shells

    Program notes:
Node 4x4 consists of ten palettes performed in sequence as cued. Italicized words are gestures given by the conductor and defined in the enclosed gesture lexicon. The gestures are a combination of soundpainting language and original gestures for this piece. The enclosed telematic convolver function written in MATLAB is for use by the laptop performer in palette 6.

Structure and timing in the video:

    Palette 1: Bass (1:20 - 9:06)
    Palette 2: everybody (9:06 - 18:00)
    Palette 3: Sax, Oud, 3 Tbns, Bass, Perc (18:00 - 19:07)
Palette 4: Bass, perc, sax (19:07-21:00)
    Palette 5: Oud + drones (21:00 - 25:30)
    Palette 6: tbn gliss solo > 3 tbns > laptop (bell tone) solo (25:30 - 31:52)
    Palette 7: Sax, Oud, 3 Tbns, Bass, perc (vamp) (31:56 - 33:37)
Palette 8: Everybody (meter progression + bass tbn solo + long tones > Perc solo) (33:37 - 39:17)
