1. WHAT IS HUNGRY CREATIVES?
Making it into the creative industry still depends on who you know, as much as what you know. Meeting the person who can give you the right feedback or a break in the industry is the hard part. That’s why Hungry Creatives was born.

    OUR AIM
Our aim is to showcase the work of the hopefuls who aim to make their mark in the industry. We have put these hungry creatives on the same page as people who have made it, who were kind enough to share their experiences and journeys.

  2. Pete Best and Scott Illingworth from Best FX are prime examples of interest becoming passion, and passion becoming success.

Pete’s creative journey started in 1982 when his interest in sound lead him to start mixing live bands. Scott on the other hand, had the instrument in hand, and studied at the Adelaide Conservatorium for four years in Jazz Performance and Compositions. These backgrounds set the foundations that lead them into the working world of sound.

With such a vast range of skills (film, music, live, edit, design), Pete and Scott advise to find your interest first, establish the skills you feel comfortable doing, and hunt down the initiatives that can help you get a foot in the door.

  3. Script editor. Is that shorthand for human spell checker/grammar gremlin exterminator? This week’s interviewee Caroline Kelly does it as a job at Channel 7 News, and it seems those skills are just part of the story (pardon the obvious pun!)

Caroline’s career trajectory can be traced back to childhood when she anchored family holidays. Along the way she’s achieved some emulation worthy goals, including winning an ABC cadetship. Want an ABC cadetship? Broadcast media aspirations? She’s been there, doing that, and has some advice on how to get there.

Potential career insight is just a click away.

  4. Cameron Edson, Cinematographer, Trying to make it

Cameron Edson knows that we can learn a lot from the work of other artists. He’s inspired by Stanley Kubik’s fine cinematography in The Shining (1980) and Jonathan Amos’ editing for Scott Pilgrim VS The World (2010). He’d be happy with a career in cinematography or editing—as long as he can get his hands on a camera.

Cameron is in his third year of film study at UniSA, and spends the rest of his time watching films he admires and working for Hungry Creatives. He would love to get some hands-on experience and learn from the best in the industry.
