The Mailworks is a direct mail company that provides a full suite of printing and mailing services for companies both large and small who use direct marketing. Headquartered in downtown Albany, NY, they have been experts in the direct mail marketing game for over 25 years.
We were hired to film their day-to-day operations in order to show visually, just how busy and how large-scale of an operation they have running. We were quite impressed to say the least. Their warehouse is over 60,000 square feet, and they have roughly 65-70 employees. Our day started at around 9:00am, where the first thing we did was head upstairs to set up our timelapse camera. For this we used a Canon T2i with an 18-135mm f/3.5 lens. The final shot we color corrected and added a tilt-shift effect using Magic Bullet Looks. The reason for the timelapse was simply to show how much volume and how much traffic is on their floor on a given day, which is a good amount!
The rest of the footage was filmed on two Canon 5D Mark II's with a 50mm f/1.8, a 24-105mm f/4L, and a 28mm f/1.8. Other gear we had with us was the Manfrotto 561BHDV-1 Monopod, a custom-built dolly system with a Manfrotto head, and our Lowel lighting kit for interviews. Music was licensed through withetiquette.com from the artist Cars and Trains, and their song, "The Leaves."
Champions is an energetic sports bar located in the Marriott Copley Plaza in Boston. They have a ton of TVs, great food, and a long list of beers on tap. This :60 ad was filmed on the trusty 5D Mark II with the EF 28mm f/1.8, and the EF 50mm f/1.4. Other gear used was the Manfrotto 561BHDV-1 Monopod, a custom made dolly, and Glidecam 2000.

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to film an online marketing video for a small business owner located in South Boston. They're a husband and wife team that are both avid cyclists, and really all-around fitness gurus all together. The company is called Exposed Seam. They came up with an interesting take on a product that hasn't really gotten a lot of attention from the crowd they're trying to market to. Specifically, the hurried man.
Their StaySharp Commuter Cuffs come in a denim fabric so that they blend in with your jeans and don't stick out like a sore thumb. Another big selling feature is the fact that they are super quick to take on and take off by sporting a nice velcro patch. Part of the reason why Jonathan & Jen wanted to take this idea to the next stage was because they wanted to make something that was stylish, easy, and practical. That's the core of it. You can quickly and easily remove the StaySharp without having to worry about looking silly if you forget they're on your legs.
A few of the technicals. This was a single camera shoot that spanned just about 8 hours on a Sunday. Filmed entirely on the Canon 5D Mark II, except for a scene where I attached the GoPro HD to the back of a bicycle to get some close-up shots of their product in action. For lighting all I had was a rented Kino Flo Diva has a light source, and a reflector that was supplied from Jonathan's photography arsenal. Interviews were mic'ed via Sennheiser G2 wireless sets and recorded to the Zoom H4n.
Other equipment I used was our custom made DSLR slider with a quick release that allows me to remove and attach rapidly from it's Manfrotto legs. I also used the Manfrotto 561BHDV-1 monopod. The glass I used was all Canon EF lenses, the 28mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.4, and 135mm f/2.0.
Nearly all shots were left uncolorcorrected except for Jonathan's CU interview shot, and a couple of the bike riding sequences. We're working harder at achieving the exact look we'd like in-camera so as to save time in post production. Music licensed through withetiquette.com. Song is "I Need Want It" by Purse Candy.
