Robert Glasper Experiment played Saturday night at Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago. Glasper's fifth album, "Black Radio," groups him with Casey Benjamin on saxophone, flute and vocorder; and Derrick Hodge on bass. Drummer Mark Cullenberg and special guest, Bilal, performed with Glasper to a sold out audience.
We Love Soul, a group of Chicago-based DJs, brought Glasper to Wicker Park. The Silver Room, 1442 N. Milwaukee Ave., hosted a meet and greet with the artists before the show.
"Black Radio" features collaborations with Bilal, Lupe Fiasco, yasiin bey, Erykah Badu, Lalah Hathaway, Ledisi, Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michele, Meshell Ndegeocello, Stokely and KING. Glasper, who also produced the album, included covers of Sade's "Cherish the Day" and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
A behind-the-scenes look at "Unnatural Spaces" during an a open rehearsal at Voices of the City studio. The work-in-progress play is a collaborative choral production of the Poetry Performance Incubator presented by Guild Literary Complex.
