The campaign against living miserably (CALM) was set up to reduce the high suicide rate amongst men under 35, currently the single biggest killer of young men in the UK. It is a campaign and charity targeting young men with a helpline, magazine and online community, but CALM listens to anyone who needs help or support.
Men are three times more at risk of suicide than young women – in 2010 75% of suicides were men. But while smoking and knife crime make the headlines, suicide is the biggest killer. Most men who take their own lives aren’t in contact with any other agency, and don’t identify with much out there. When asked, what they indicated they wanted was practical, anonymous, confidential help from professionals. Which is why CALM was formed.
CALM began as a Dept. of Health pilot in 1997. It was formed as a charity in 2006 with the support of music impresario and trustee Tony Wilson, who recognised the importance of its vision.
There are many reasons why young men need a campaign like CALM. Everyone has their own life, with different interests, circumstances, pressures and problems. But men aren’t supposed to talk about stuff, so it can be hard for them to know where or who to go to for help when life gets on top of them.
CALM promotes and delivers a free, confidential, anonymous helpline and website targeted at oung men, though CALM will listen to anybody who needs advice or support, regardless of age, gender or geographic location.
CALM publishes the CALMzine, a bi-monthly magazine distributed across Topman stores and select venues across inner London. CALM also have a lively website full of articles to fire you up, make you think, and stories about the exploits of CALM and our supporters. We’re into Twitter and Facebook too – come and join us online.

Elek Tronique™ is a new electronic dance music magazine TV show/documentary; ‘Docu-Zine’, which focuses on genres; House, Techno, Electro, Drum & Bass and Dub Step. The show is built around a series of interviews with various music artists; DJ’s/producers/MC’s within the above genres from various places within UK and across the globe.
Our show and project is purely about the music, the people who produce, mix and promote it. The original concept of the show was to document and showcase artists, venues, events and labels, only within House, Techno, Dub Step, Electro and Drum & Bass music. We wanted to feature artists from various musical backgrounds and not just all the well known ‘superstar’ DJ’s but with also new DJ’s and producers who have recently come through. This variety of artists, genres, backgrounds, production techniques and music style is what Elek Tronique™ respected and wanted to showcase.
With now 60 artists released: XTC, Magda, Ambivalent, Dawn Raid, Propz & Rowney, North Base, Tonn Piper, Virus Syndicate, David Rodigan, Mary Anne Hobbs, Submotion Orchestra, Gina Star, Camo & Krooked, Toddla T, Doorly, Nu:Tone, london Elektricity, High Contrast, Kissey Sell Out, Danny Byrd, Frank Lorber, DJ Bone, DJ Sappo, UNKLE, Prophecy, Claude VonStroke, Kenny Ken, Jakwob, Reboot, Rockwell, Andre Galluzzi, Nicky Blackmarket, Technasia, Bare Noize, Ben Sims, Dirty Vegas, Yousef, Micky Finn, N-Type, Ray Keith, Utah Saints, Krysko, Breakage, Zeds Dead, Adam Beyer, Joris Voorn, Aphordite, Sub Focus, Wonk, Rossco, Rosie Romero, Mauro Picotto, Caspa, Rod Azlan, Simian Mobile Disco, Heidi, Virus Syndicate, DJ Sneak, Nic Fanciulli, Marky, John Dahlback.

Lucy Ridges Photography:
Studio based artist. My time is divided between photographing clients and creating photographic prints to exhibit in gallery spaces.
With a background in fine art photography, the approach I take in the studio is highly creative with the end result sitting somewhere between classic portraiture and nonsensical staged photography. With life as my constant inspiration along with the work of the Surrealists, I aim to pleasantly unsettle.
Born & Bred Mancunian music Photographer Philippa Vivienne Rankin.
Capturing live music, gigs, promo's, events & everything inbetween.
"With an appetite for excess, photographer Philippa Rankin could easily be accused of being more Rock 'n' Roll than her chosen subject matter." - Whats Occurring Magazine 2010.
Specialising in live music and Band / Artist promotional work, Philippa will delve right into the mosh pit (or the press pit if she's had her hair done) Caputring the mood, and the electricity that shoots through every guitar string. Making sure she listens to the client and knows exactly what image they are aiming for.
Evolving with her own style & approach, Philippa always has her photographic finger on the ever so pumping Mancunian music pulse.
