1. I have been photographing the Amazon jungle in Brazil for over 40 years. In March of 2009 I took my Nikon D300s into the jungle to test it. This video is the first one I shot with the camera. The video was not planned, I just got into a boat with a friend and went upriver (on the Urubu River) to see what was up there. The rainy season was in full force, and the water level of the river was about 20 feet above normal. This is what happened.

  3. I met "Patria Amada" (Beloved Country) in 1972 in the middle of the Amazon jungle. His real name was Adoao Merois de Rosa and he was the first colonist on the infamous Transamazonic highway. When I returned to the jungle 20 years later, I went looking for him. It took 6 months to find him - over 1000 miles from where I first met and photographed him. This is the story of that reunion...

  4. I first saw my book in Rio de Janeiro...a fitting place to open it for the first time, as it was in Rio that it all began.

I've photographed the Amazon for over 40 years. The tragedy I saw at Balbina and Samuel dams were outrageous. The Brazilian government continues to make the same mistakes, its leaders haven't changed their mentality at all over the past 40 years! The Homen Branco has no self respect, or respect for others or the planet. I support your struggle against arrogance, stupidity, greed, and the refusal to do what is just for ALL Brazilians, not just the rich. I am making a documentary about my life in the Amazon with Tchau For Now Productions, a Brazilian company ( tchaufornow.com) : We want to raise awareness of the destruction of the amazon beginning with the Transamazonic highway to the gold rush through the 80's, 90's. up to this day.
