State of the State RI

Guests: Mark Gee,RI Senate District 35, sen-gee@rilin.state.ri.us
John Marion, Common Cause-RI, commoncauseri.org
Host: Robert Benson Time: 30 minutes
Guests Gee and Marion provide a history lesson in how the R.I. Ethics Commission came about, having it genesis in the 1986 Constitutional Convention, and how it came to lose it statutory oversight of R.I. legislators in a R.I. Supreme Court decision. They also discuss their dissatisfaction with one Senate bill and their preference for another bill, sponsored by Senator O’Neill, intended to restore Ethics Commission oversight of legislators. Host Benson makes the connection between ethics and the lack of desire for business to want to come to and conduct business in Rhode Island.
