Host: John Carlevale Time: 30 minutes
The fifty-eight year old Tomaquag Museum is the only museum devoted solely to indigenous/native Americans of Rhode Island. The museum is a 2016 Finalist - National Medal for Museum and Library Service and is a recipient of a grant to expand its Indigenous Empowerment Initiative, which is the focus of this interview. The IEI program develops career opportunities within the museum and beyond; it includes internships, paid positions, fellowships and more. In partnership with higher education facilities, the program seeks the creation of a Museum Studies degree and a Native Studies degree.
