State of the State RI

Guest: Ken Block, Founder, LineItemVeto.org
Host: Rebecca Quigley Powers Time: 30 minutes
Block discusses the most recent examples of legislator misbehavior, which further adds to the public’s frustration and disappointment of their elected officials and underscores the need for preventive measures. Some of the needed measures include a line item veto, restoring ethics commission oversight of legislators, and a better balance of power not only between the legislative branch and the executive branch but also within the legislature itself. The dominance of one political party withing the legislature is contrary to a balance of power and a deliberative legislative process.
