Jeffrey Schwartz is a New Orleans native that went to MIT and came home with a mission – that New Orleans could make itself better. As Executive Director of Broad Community Connections, Jeffrey is focused on revitalizing the Broad Street corridor and surrounding areas. Combining economic development with community revitalization is what most excites Jeffrey about the position he plays in New Orleans’ growth and expansion.
Jackie Harris began her professional career at a major oil company and then left to pursue creative opportunities in the areas of culture, tourism, music, entertainment and the arts. She wanted to make the world a better place and bring the culture and music of New Orleans to others. This transition has brought her to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the City of New Orleans Music and Entertainment Commission, the New Orleans Jazz Commission and her role in leading the charge that resulted in the first airport in the United States to be named for a jazz artist – the Louis Armstrong International Airport. But it is her current position as the creator and executive director of the Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp where she truly shines.
Mark Samuels received important advice early in his business career – enjoy what you do. Mark was successful in the business world working in the energy industry, but was looking for something different – something that he would have a good time doing. So when approached with the idea to invest in a live recording, he decided to convert his hobby into his own music company. In the 15 years since, Mark’s passion has grown into the award-winning Basin Street Records label.
Ann Tuennerman is the creator and founder of Tales of the Cocktail, the world’s premier cocktail festival. Now in its tenth year, Tales of the Cocktail has become an international event that celebrates the dining and drinking culture of the city of New Orleans. While never officially taking on the role of a mixologist or a bartender, Ann has embraced the culture of the city by creating an event that brings visitors, dollars and publicity to the city.
