"AjA" is perhaps one of Steely Dan's most iconic songs and albums. View and listen for yourself , "AjA" performed at the Coach House by the Usual Suspects as they opened for Jake Shimabukuro to a sold-out audience.
- Shaun Shelton fronts the live performance, leading the band with his refined musical arrangement of "AjA", offering-up recognizable 'note for note' tasty lead guitar solos and delivering strong lead vocals, all which we are accustom to hearing from any Steely Dan song.
- Andy Alison takes on the guitar #2 job with a rhythemic jazz-rock guitar, augmented with well syncopated signature "AjA" rhythm-riffs as part of the band's back-drop to Shaun's lead guitar and vocals.
- Steven Greco on drums lays down the song's intricate percussive timing structure as the band's vanguard for getting this Steely Dan song played 'right' in a live performance. His drum solo is tight, right down to the discernible "clicking" of drum sticks that are always spot-on. Steven also provides high harmony backing vocals throughout the song.
- Bob Greco, on keyboards, hands over the iconic intro piano notes that define "AjA" from the very start. He skillfully carries the song through the elaborate arrangements of verses and solos, where at midway, he seductively returns the band to the song's signature intro to the delight of the audience. Bob, like his brother Steven, provides tasty harmony vocals.
- John Steel lays down a solid bass guitar with taste and style holding true to the original recorded album by Steely Dan. He is gracefully applies the deep melodic rhythm with a discernible edge. He notoriously adds in the 'police whistle' in those moments in the song that reminds us that the song "AjA" is as much about an adventure as it is a song about a mysterious woman from the Far East.
