  2. You meet all kinds of talent in Digital Media courses. Tommy (Thomas Williams) and I sat through a lot of classes together learning the craft of story telling and editing. When he is not doing documentary work about people in recovery or the homeless, Tommy does tile work as one of his means of earning a living. Knowing this, I asked if he would do some tile work for me and Nancy in our new house.

We had a litany of Go Pro cameras laying about so we shot a lot of clips of Tommy doing the work with them, I only wish I had plugged in a good mic instead of using the built ins.........but Se La Vie.

We did however finally get to use the Go Pro Hero camera that we installed the Stuntcams 8MM lens in, it was used for the slider shot near the end of the video.

  3. In April of 2014 I shot test footage of Battery Bob preparing the LeMay Family Collection's Kaiser Darrin to be moved to an event at the fairgrounds in Puyallup, WA, from the Marymount Campus in Spanaway, WA, where it normally is displayed.

There was no intent to make a video, just capture some test footage with my Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera. This was shot in Apple Pro Res 422, edited in FCP7.

After looking at the footage, and realizing I had shot some stills as well as had stills provided to me by the volunteers who restored this car several year ago I decided to make a short cut to beat video, a teaser so to speak for a planned documentary on this vehicle.

Audio on the BMPCC is not great but there were a couple of clips that made it fun to insert into the video, normally we use a Zoom H4N with these cameras and lately I am leaning to picking up a TASCAM DR60 to use.

  4. This is a combination of footage from four Go Pro Hero cameras, a Go Pro Hero 3 Silver, Go Pro Hero 3 Black, and two Go Pro Hero 2, as well as the footage from four television studio cameras and the audio track from the session which was worked in Pro Tools. The band is Ben Union, playing their song "Trouble". This session was shot in January of 2013 here at Bates Technical College's Mohler campus in Tacoma, WA.
Students did all crew/cast positions in the production of the this video; that encompasses the floor positions in the studio, the art work, lighting, control room, camera operators, audio engineering, and post production editing, or in my case, former student. Having completed the Digital Media program I often volunteer my services as a teacher's aid.

  5. This was a two fold exercise, the use of a Opteka X-Grip modified to accept 3 Go Pro cameras ( 2 Go Pro Hero 2's with software update and 1 Go Pro Hero 3 Silver) and to take the edit with what available resources that were on hand and make it work with the selected music track. In short, no reshooting, which is obvious in the clip showing the Opteka Go Pro tree, a bit to short but as the Go Pro Hero with Stuntcams 8MM lens was on head I used what footage would work.

The Hero 3 was set at 24FPS, 1080 wide, the Hero 2s were 24FPS 1080W & 1080M, the Hero was on F3 but equipped with a Stuntcams 8MM lens which as a fixed depth of field between 22 and 36 inches......

These are a sample of my videos as I progress from student to a working video specialist, most I do to hone my skills, work both still and video in a varity forms. Some are done using Go Pro cameras and edited with FCP 7, while others are done in SD with a Panasonic DVX 100B and HD with a Canon Vixia HF S10.

I like motorcycle and machinery, hence I freuently use still photos mixed in with video in a cut to the beat clip insertion with regard to music......

I really want to focus on Oral Histories from surviving veterans from WWII and Korea but most approached are reticent to go on camera.
