Running in the mountains is always a great feeling and we were very lucky to enjoy such nice mornings in July. This video was shot during two training sessions in the French Alps (Massif des Bauges and Lauziere, for those of you who want the details).
This was also a chance to test the latest VIVOBAREFOOT trail running shoes, the Neo Trails (vivobarefoot.com/us/neo-trail-mens-23.html/), in some alpine terrain. I had a good experience running with those no drop heel shoes on flat trails (although it doesn't work so well under the rain and on slippery rocks) and I was curious to see how it would go on some higher trails.
The result? Well, it is a very good minimalist shoe (again, no drop heel and really thin soles) which lets you feel the ground you're running on nicely. It also has very good spikes that give an optimum grip in the grass or on clay/mud. The problem with such spikes is when you run on rock tiles, where the grip was not good enough and we had to be very careful.
Also, start slow if you go with minimalist shoes on mountain trails. The altitude, the rough courses and the steep slopes make it much more tiring for your legs. So take it easy and enjoy the mountain safely!
