I had the pleasure to spend a few hours with TAT on Warped Tour in Tampa, FL July 2009. They let me run my camera for a while and this is the result.
I present you with a performance music video I made for their song "You Hero".
I discovered this band on PureVolume.com in 2007 and instantly fell in love with their music.. As I recall, I was one of their first MySpace.com followers.
The first time I'd met them was on Van Warped Tour in 2008 as they played to a crowd of about five people. I bought their EP, chatted with Tatiana, Nick, and Jake and eagerly awaited the eminent release of their debut album, SoHo Lights, that was due to drop in October of that year.
A few months later 2009 came around and I became involved with a short film with another aspiring director. I had played some of TAT's music during our preproduction meetings. It just seemed to fit the material. So we determined that we wanted to use a song off the debut album for the short we were making and I preceded to send a few emails and make a few calls.
That led to a phone call with TAT's agent at the time and he was nice enough to give me a few VIP tickets to meet the band on the local leg of the Vans Warped Tour in July of 2009.
I'd reintroduced myself to the band and they were nice enough to let me pull out my video camera. Jake led me back stage and the rest you can say is history.
I sat ont he footage for several months. The audio wasn't clear enough to post on YouTube and I didn't have a access to a decent computer or editing software at the time.
Enter my then landlords (and great friends) Ben and Randy. They had a MAC... And three huge dogs. I often watched over them while Ben and Randy were out of town. This presented a grand opportunity in September 2009.
So I sat down, with my hour and a half of video with TAT one weekend determined to make something from what I had.
So I settled on a music video for the song "You Hero". This was for really only one reason. I had a decent close up of Tatiana singing it and could lip sync her performance to the song fairly well. So I built everything around that 30 seconds and attempted to provide a slight glimpse into TAT back stage shenanigans for other fans to enjoy.
Is this my best work? By no means. But I am very proud what I made. It's part of an experience I hope to never forget.
Who knows? Maybe I'll direct a real video for them someday.
The videos of Andrew Martin Hogsten can be found on this channel. What does that mean to you? Expect to see Tampa, Florida from his perspective of the world around him. Who knows? You just might have some fun.
