Jim Phypers plays alto recorder on the "Trio Sonata for Recorder, Flute, Cello, and Harpsichord" by Johann Joachim Quantz (1697-1773). Quantz wrote many flute sonatas and concertos for his patron, Frederick the Great of Prussia, who was himself a good flutist. Before he ascended to the throne, Frederick studied flute with one of the leading flutists of his day who was in fact Johann Joachim Quantz.
