This stylish and perplexing musical short film was shot and edited in six desperate days as the postultimate film of 12films12weeks.com. It was directed and designed by Sandra Boynton, and edited and mixed by Boynton with Michael Ford. The track was originally written and produced by Boynton and Ford for the Grammy-nominated album/songbook PHILADELPHIA CHICKENS (certified Gold by the RIAA.)
Wunderkind DP Derek Van Gorder shot the film in the foothills of the Berkshires on September 1, 2009, using the Canon 5D Mark II digital camera, along with the Indie-Dolly System. No actual ducks took part.
The film stars Keith Boynton, the original performer of the "Be Like a Duck" song, who is also co-producer (with Mike Lavoie) of 12 Films 12 Weeks—a project launched in the giddy afterglow of their first-place victory in the New York Film Race 2009. Keith is in no way related to director Sandra Boynton except that he's her son. Also featured in BE LIKE A DUCK are Boynton's other three grown children—Caitlin McEwan, Devin McEwan, and Darcy Boynton—as well as Mike Lavoie and the terrific Brooklyn-based dancer Nick Brentley.
The amazing B.B. King—along with some overambitious sock puppets—stars in this musical short film directed and designed by Sandra Boynton, and edited and mixed by Boynton with Michael Ford. The track was originally written and produced by Boynton and Ford for the celebrated album/songbook BLUE MOO: 17 Jukebox Hits from Way Back Never.
This short film was shot on 35mm film at Dreamvision Studios in Las Vegas on July 18, 2008. It was released as a book/DVD by Workman Publishing in September of 2009.
"This is my first film-directing experience, and I also got to take on the glorious complications of production design. Working with B.B. King is just fabulous. What a miracle he is."
This video needs no introduction. Well, actually it DOES need an introduction but I can't think of one. Oh well. Admit it: you're curious.
This was shot in a 1930s tool shed in Northwest Connecticut, using an old home movie screen as a backdrop, one vintage fresnel-lensed photographer's light, a Panasonic HVX200 video camera, and very little prior reflection.
Registrando bons momentos... Lita! =)
