  3. On Thursday 24 May at 4:30pm, Monte visited Michele Lee’s Talon Salon, a site specific audio theatre work, at Paradise Nails, 230 Swan St Richmond, and talked to playwright Michele Lee as well as Salon owner Quyen. What follows is a short discussion on what it’s like hosting an art project within a small business environment – Talon Salon participants were given manicures and pedicures while listening to a series of audio performance works – as well as a very special reading of the first part of an unused Talon Salon script by Monte, Michele and Quyen.

  4. On Friday 25 May 2012, Monte held a discussion in the Dear Patti Smith gallery space with fellow Next Wave artist Michelle Sakaris. They discussed Monte’s recent visit to her exhibition The Warmth of the Curve at BUSprojects as part of the 2012 Next Wave festival, in particular responding to Michelle’s “invitation to circumambulate”.
The act of circamambulation (walking around an object) is central to Michelle’s work, and she has invited audiences to walk around certain objects/places/things three times in order to experience this process, which is based in ritual and religious practices from a variety of sources.
Monte and Michelle reviewed video documentation of his experience of this “walking around”, including footage of Monte’s mid-week circuits of Etihad Stadium, as well as discussing the form of the The Warmth of the Curve and the background to the circamambulation process itself.

Give us a Look was an exhibition and performance project presented by Monte Masi as part of the 2012 Next Wave Festival in Melbourne, Australia. Responding to creative director Emily Sexton's 2012 festival theme "The Space Between us wants to Sing", Give us a Look explored the projects of the 2012 Next Wave Festival as an artwork in its own right. In collaboration with videographer/editor Nicholas Moss and photographer/sound recordist Dane Hirsinger, Monte worked during the festival to promote and contextualise the work of selected other NWF2012 projects, discursively responding to a number of other 2012 next wave festival projects through performance, video and audio outcomes and enthusiastically joining the dots and constructing constellations as the festival progressed. As host, highlighter, documenter and supporter all rolled into one, Monte's project idiosyncratically appropriated curatorial and promotional practices to provide added contextual energy to the practices and projects on show as part of the festival.
