This film was shot mainly in a barley field , outside Ahoghill, with Slemish on the horizon, deep in Northern Ireland's Bible Belt. Maggie Young [ http://www.maggieyoung.tv ] was commissioned to write a song about a 'Massey Ferguson tractor', to be included on the sound track of a farming video for 'Linton Film Productions' (http://www.lintonfilmproductions.com ). On completion of the recording of the song it was decided it warranted a separate video for the 'Naughty But Nice' song. It was written, recorded, screen-played and co-directed by Maggie who also starred in the video, quite an achievement for a 1st time video maker.
This popular video '52 Acres Of Barley' has already been shown on Country Music Television Channels. Back in August 2011 I was chatting in a facebook group, when in general conversation I got talking to Tom Ghent. Tom brought up the subject of whiskey and mentioned he'd written a song called ''Whiskey, Whiskey'' and suggested maybe would I sing it. I said I didn't like whiskey. I said maybe I could write a song called ''Vodka, Vodka'' , that's because I thought he was joking, and he laughed. The following morning I received a private message from Tom saying he was serious and it wasn't a joke and would I sing his song. He mentioned who all had recorded the song. When I heard that Kris Kristofferson, Rita Coolidge, Gene Watson and Mama Cass had recorded it already I couldn't refuse an offer like that.
I agreed to record it and recorded it last winter along with some other songs, including a few for my forthcoming album. I was so proud and humbled to be asked to sing the song and so proud of the finished recording, with an Irish flavor added to it -- with uilleann pipes and fiddle (being from the North of Ireland I had to add my own stamp to the song). Tom just loved the track immediately when he heard it and realized I'd put my whole heart and soul into singing it.
