Eilian has experienced a loss. His sister, Lillian, was murdered, along with his parents, in a tragic domestic abuse incident. Supposedly, his abusive parents were responsible for killing their daughter out of anger one afternoon, killing themselves afterwards. This all happened while the Eilian was away at college.
He is greatly affected by this, becomes a loner, and often goes distant places just to think. (Such as the beach, etc.). He keeps a memento of his sister with him, the newspaper article that was derived after his sister's death.
One day, he meets a woman called Lillith (aka “Lily”) while spending time at the beach. Their first meet is subtle/spontaneous, eventually talking and becoming friends. Lily decides to show Eilian something.
She shows him a device that will allow them to travel in time.
To prove this, the two travel a short distance into the past. (A couple minutes into the past, the two see themselves disappear, etc.)
Lily says that she is going to give the protagonist a chance to travel back in time and stop what happened to his little sister. Eilian attempts to go back to the time when his sister was killed. Afterwards, Lily hands him a gun and tells him he knows what he has to do.
(This cuts to a previous scene that shows Lily being given the device by a government agent, who tells her that she knows what she has to do).
In the doorway, Eilian discovers his parents angry, hurting his sister. He is filled with rage, shouts, closes his eyes, and shoots at his father, who has his back turned on the protagonist, and misses. He shot his sister.
In shock and still holding the gun, Eilian raises it towards his head. Lily, having a change of heart, attempts to stop Eilian from killing himself. She runs towards him, grabs him, and in the process sets off the device.
The two disappear, followed by the sound of a gunshot.
