1. Sensitile's Terrazzo Lumina material is used as a bar-top at Starwood's Aloft Hotel's WXYZ bars at all US and many international locations.

Sensitile Terrazzo Lumina™ slabs & tiles are composed of a light conducting matrix embedded within a concrete substrate, by combining these two opposites, one light and ephemeral and the other massive and opaque, a whole new building material is born – one which is able to efficiently transport light emanating from unseen LED sources, through its solid mass and emit it from myriad points on its surface.

Terrazzo Lumina™ is an immensely adaptable material systems that is available both as pre-cast tiles and slabs but can also be custom cast to the specific requirements of different projects.

  2. Feature wall for 1385 Broadway in New York City.

Designed by MKDA, this illuminated artwork features Sensitile Lumina panels that are edge lit with high-efficiency cool white LED lights on the top and bottom. Two panels are mounted within an 8' x 8' brushed frame designed to be mounted with custom stand-offs on the wall. The panels, frame and illumination were all manufactured by Sensitile and provided as a kit-of-parts for installation on site.

Sensitile's Lumina panels are an optical lens designed to transport edge light and bring it out on one or both faces, creating thousands of "floating" points of light within them. The light source is always external and thus it remains serviceable and interchangeable. In effect, the panel becomes a fiber optic and the light travels within it with minimal loss, thus there is little to no fading in a properly illuminated panel system .

  3. Sensitile Terrazzo Lumina floor and wall tiles manufactured fro the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago. The embedded pattern of light points was custom designed for the project based on the renderings provided. The light points embedded in the concrete are activated by a sensor such that a movement or shimmer is introduced when one walks up to the installation.

The project designed by the Rockwell Group.

  4. This video illustrates the Scintilla panel's uncanny ability to absorb and redistribute projected light.

In this case a moving blue light is passing on the surface of multiple stacked panels - each 18" x 36" panel instantly comes "alive" as the light travels across its width. The movement of the light is further magnified by the "rippling" it creates within the interactive material.

  5. Sensitile Scintilla panel with colored light projected on its surface. The colors are blended at the borders and bleed into each other. When the surface is interacted with (with shadows) - new and hidden colors mysteriously emerge.
