[Adopt 'Bobby'! animalsaustralia.org/adopt-bobby] The treatment of bobby calves has been a long-held secret of the dairy industry. For the sake of milk products, the Australian dairy industry discards hundreds of thousands of unwanted week-old calves as 'waste products' every year. This short demo was conceived during early "development" in the summer of 2011, shot, edited and directed by Liz Marshall, produced by Nina Beveridge and Liz Marshall, and supported by Canada's documentary channel. It introduces Jo-Anne McArthur, the film's protagonist, alongside a featured animal story: the rescue of Fanny and Sonny from the dairy industry.
THE GHOSTS IN OUR MACHINE was then subsequently commissioned by Canada's documentary channel as a feature length film, by Liz Marshall, featuring photographer Jo-Anne McArthur. It is a cinematic feature length documentary that illuminates the lives of individual animals living within or rescued from the machine of our modern world. Through the heart and photographic lens of animal rights photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur audiences become intimately familiar with a cast of animal characters.

Meet Hildy, a former ghost. She was born and bred in a factory farm but was mysteriously dropped off at the doorstep of Farm Sanctuary in upstate New York. She is now 8 years old and lives in an open barnyard with a rafter of other talkative rescued turkeys.
