Dancers have developed a multimedia dance performance exploring social and
political issues, such as climate change and the social isolation of people.
"Imbalanced" studies the interrelation of environment and society which seem
to be unequally balanced. "The climate of the world loses its balance, nature
and people get more and more exploited -- come on, let's dance", this is how
Mohan C. Thomas, artistic director and choreographer, summarizes the idea of
the dance .
The international cast of Tanzmoto Dance Company created the plot jointly.
Diverse interpretations and dancing images as well as dynamic movements
have been created through intensive personal dancing research on the issues
and through individual experiences gained by travelling through nature reserves
in Japan, Colombia and Germany. A remarkable combination of self-compiled
sound compositions including orchestral, electronic and natural sounds
underlines what happens on stage, making it an exciting, variable and
This production is sponsored by the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia,

“Technologue – A Moving Rhythm Theatre” is a style-mixing dance and rhythm experience: Under the direction of Mohan C. Thomas, five dancers, two percussionists and one sound creator combine their experience and impressions of techno culture. Modern music styles such as hiphop, drum’n’bass, techno and electro are performed live by the artists, using live sampling, a groovebox and synthesizers. The interplay of video and dance transforms the stage into a multimedia narration reflecting the longing for a rhythm experience and the broad variety of dance styles in a dynamic and independent way.
“Technologue – A Moving Rhythm Theatre” was supported by the Kunststiftung NRW, the Cultural Office of Essen, Kultur Im Ringlokschuppen e.V. and by the cultural centre Schloss Borbeck.
"Orientation" is based upon a new fusion of artistes with different ethnical origins, whose concern is the ancient art of dance of the Whirling Dervishes. The dance piece with video has been already performed in New York City @ Joyce SoHo Theater.
The idea is based on the mixture of the traditional ritual of the Sufis and a new interpretation of it.
The emphasis of the work is to achieve the unity through the spiritual whirling and emerging into trance of the three contemporary dancers. This is accompanied by one musician playing Live -Percussion.
With both the newly created and traditional forms of the whirling, the dancers turn in rhythm to music like Drum `n Bass, Colombian Cumbia and Electronic Sufi Music.
The Production was developed with the help of Multimedia and based on the intercultural backgrounds of the professional musicians, dancers, video producers, and designers of costume and illumination.
The choreographer and artistic director Mohan Christopher Thomas (dancer with Sasha Waltz, Schaubühne Berlin) combines traditional dance forms of the Orient, Asia and South America with contemporary choreography, video sequences filmed at high technical and financial cost, and special composed World Underground Music.
Stress, pressure for success and over challenged – Phenomena of contemporary society. Exact this feeling broaches "RETURN".
After the successful project "Imbalanced", which dealt with the complexity of our time, with an oversupply in the western world and the exploitation of natural resources as a consequence thereof, with overstimulation and its consequences and the overextended society, TANZMOTO DANCE COMPANY continues in this direction.
The company is going to ask more questions and looks for a solution in an artistic way. The new production focuses on retreat, the reduction on the essential parts of life and the concentration on you. It describes the process of finding rest and leads to a new form of emotionality. What happens if we escape from our daily missions and our takes in life? Do we abstain integration as a consequence of not communicating as intensive as the others? Does it automatically lead to isolation?
