    ‘Oni-daiko' refers to demon drums. It is a mainstream ancient popular culture & performing art in Sado, Niigata, Japan. It is a religious dance performance with drum beats to ward off devils in order to pray for a bountiful harvest, good fortune and health. It has been performed house to house to ward off devils, however in front of Shinto shrine to entertain and bless the community. This ancient drumming performance known as 'Ondeko' as well.

    Worldwide demon considers as negative force, but Sado people
    believe reversely as source of blessing and happiness. They believe if evil spirit becomes happy and permit, good fortune and blessing come easily. With due respects people of Sado island arrange Oni-daiko performances regularly since over last 500 years.

    During performance Oni performers wear mask and colorful dress
    like monster. Generally red dress with closed-mouth masked represent male Oni, and white dress with open-mouth masked represent female

    There is around 120 Oni-daiko performing groups in the island. Oni-daiko is mostly common item in Sado's festivals

  2. Toki Marathon is an annual sports event in Sado, Niigata, Japan. It generally held in April of every year. In the year 2015 it was held on 26th April in which venue was 'Ondeko dome'. The running distance was , 10 km, 5 km and 3 km.
