This is a brief video showing the chassis of my S-scale NW2 engine running on the battery power and controlled by the Stanton S-CAB on my desk. This was to prove that no rail is needed to run the engine. I was just testing my set-up, and now I have to finalize the installation. Everything seems to work as advertised.
This is an S-scale NW2 made by former S-Helper Service. It has the S-CAB DCC system installed with battery power (it is not running on track power). I fine-tuned the starting speed, and this is what the engine looks like when it is running on speed step #1 (the slowest I have set it for).
