1. AFCEA Monterey Bay Chapter Education Fund, with underwriters Raytheon Company, Rockwell Collins, Glenair Sales, and Donald R. Beall, Beall Family Foundation, developed educational products in conjunction with a Battle of Midway memorial dinner. The Naval Postgraduate School President’s Student Council is the sponsor supported by the Monterey Bay Commandery Naval Order, Navy League Monterey Peninsula Council, NPS Foundation, and AFCEA Monterey Bay. The theme chosen was “Priceless Advantage: Winning the Battles of Coral Sea, Midway, and Aleutians with Communication Intelligence” (based on Dr. Frederick D. Parker’s 1997 paper).

The primary product was a 70th anniversary DVD and CD-R containing special videos: (1) Midway reflections with George P. Shultz, Dr. William J. Perry, and Gary Roughead, (2) USS California BB-44 Navy Band No. 16 members speak on experiences during and after Pearl Harbor attack, and (3) Rear Admiral “Mac” Showers (Ret) shares his 1942 experiences intelligence and Japanese code breaking operations in Hawaii.

Our chapter contracted with Dr. Robert Summers and Kent Schnoeker of Shoestring Educational Productions (vimeo.com/user2921819/) to assemble and produce the DVD and CD-R delivered prior to dinner.

Shoestring Educational Productions also recorded Admiral Roughead’s talk June 2, 2012 and provided videography services for a WW II veteran interview at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Aptos, California, June 3, 2012. Both of these videos posted with Vimeo.

A limited number of the special DVD CD-R “Priceless Advantage – Winning the Pacific” are available for a modest tax-deductible donation. Contact AFCEAMonterey@sysresearchassoc.com and mention AFCEA MBC 12-1028.

AFCEA Monterey Bay Chapter Education Fund acknowledges contributions by the Hoover Institution, National Cryptologic Museum Foundation, National Security Agency Center for Cryptologic History, Naval Postgraduate School Dudley Knox Library, Stanford University, US Navy Pacific Command N2. Our special thanks to James R. Boone, Deborah C. Gordon, CAPT Kenneth A. Johnson (Ret), John F. Sanders, and Rear Admiral Donald M. “Mac” Showers (Ret).
