About 16 years ago, a sweet, talented guitarist and local boy from Honolulu, Hawai'i met a quirky, boisterous singer from Hood River, Oregon in a college play.
Sparks flew. Love blossomed. Musical styles were intertwined. And, the lovin' seeds of our band Mango Season were planted...
We are Annie & Curtis Kamiya, and we make up the island soul jazz group Mango Season from Honolulu, Hawai'i. We've been singing and making music since we could talk, and that love for music has seen us through 4am morning shifts at Starbucks, moves from Seattle to San Francisco and back again, and into a loving relationship that we are lucky to share every single day.
We now make music for a living. An absolute dream come true for us as artists. And we are so excited to reach this point where we've met a team of incredible musicians, created original music we're very proud of, and are in the position to hunker down for months to craft our debut CD.
That's where your contribution and love comes in...
We are looking for music lovers who delight in the smoky lusciousness of jazz music. The lovers of old school R&B that channels Marvin Gaye and Roberta Flack. The lovers who listen to island music and feel like they just popped open a can of paradise.
Our goal is to release this type of full-length, "island soul jazz" musical experience on CD by December 2012. The songs are written, the talented musicians are waiting in the wings, we have the recording studio all set-up and ready to go...we just need some extra support in order to pay our musicians well, hire the technicians, producers, studio and mastering engineers, distribution company, and so on, necessary to create an outstanding sound for you, our fans.
We budget that it will take $10,000 to accomplish our goal and deliver a CD you are proud of by the end of 2012. We already invested $2,500 to get up and running and your contribution of $7,500 or more will make this whole dream a reality. If the CD receives more funding than our goal, we will roll those funds back into the project to create the best musical experience we can offer you AND enhance our fan rewards.
If we don't make our goal, we won't receive any monies and our fans won't be charged for their contribution. This would mean the CD probably won't come out for a year or more and...well, we have so many plans for our band and the music, we really want to get it into your hands NOW!
And, more importantly, we think we have some of the coolest rewards to offer for your commitment to our project. Just check out some of the goodies on the right-hand sidebar. Such as...including your very own musical contribution on our CD! This idea gives us goose-pimples 'cause the skies the limit on what musical magic we'll make together. = ) As the project rolls out, we will get to share special info with our contributors such as bootleg recording sessions, behind the scene action, special guests artist updates, unveil the name and design of our awesome, local artist creating the T-shirt and sticker design, and more. You will be part of every step of the creation of this CD (and more, if you desire!).
