Danielle Purifoy, J.D. presenting at the 2nd annual Ancestral Health Symposium 2012 (AHS12).

This presentation will focus on the integral role of local food policy councils (FPCs) in the sustainable development of urban agriculture, one of the most important resources of the local food movement. Based on research completed for the Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic, I will highlight several common challenges to successful urban agriculture initiatives, effective solutions to those challenges, and examples of how local food policy councils have achieved those solutions through various projects, from drafting zoning ordinances to forming strategic partnerships with businesses and non-profit organizations.

Danielle Purifoy received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in May 2012. She is currently a Ph.D. student at Duke University, where she is studying environmental policy and politics. She is one of the contributing writers for “Good Laws, Good Food: Putting Local Food Policy to Work for Our Communities,” a publication of the Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic.
