1. Marcus Westbury (@unsungsongs) is an Australian urbanist, festival director, TV presenter, writer and broadcaster. He is also instigator and director of Renew Newcastle, an unusual and stunningly successful bottom-up urban renewal project.

    It's common to think of cities as hardware, made up of the physical buildings and infrastructure that configure urban space. But sometimes it's more useful to regard the city as a process, as software; constantly being recoded and reinvented as we intervene in it.

  2. Dan Hill (@cityofsound) is a British-born designer based in Helsinki, where he is Strategic Design Lead at Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund. A leading figure internationally in strategic design, Hill has previously worked at ARUP, the BBC and Monocle magazine, and regularly writes for design press worldwide, as well as his acclaimed architecture and urbanism website City of Sound.

    How might we use design strategically, building better cities – and societies – by redesigning our cultures of decision-making? This presentation offers several concepts for an emerging vocabulary of strategic design; ways of thinking and acting equal to the complex challenges of reinventing urban systems.

  4. Aaron Maniam (@aaronmaniam) is a futurist, scholar and leadership educator for the most extensive national government-level foresight capacity in the world. He is currently Director of the Institute of Policy Development at the Civil Service College of Singapore, and was previously the inaugural Head of the Centre for Strategic Futures in the Prime Minister's Office.

    In recent years, Singapore has been systematically integrating foresight into the public sector. Here is a highly illuminating view from the inside of that process.
