Wow, this was a lot of work. We were approached by the director Michael Maxxis about doing the effects for this video. He had a concept but by his own admission had never done any heavy VFX projects before so was looking for a supervisor that could wrangle everything and design all the the VFX shots. Michael loved Jeremy's work on 405 and 300 so thought he would be a perfect fit to build the world that he was after.
Originally the concept called for a mix of computer VFX and traditional stop motion animation. Given the time frame and the budget Jeremy and Michel decided to ditch the stop motion and focus solely on computer generated VFX.
Handwritten is a music video that follows the lifespan of one vinyl record, highlighting it as the thread through many people's lives for decades to come. The video explores the romanticism of owning a physical piece of music and the impact, whether big or small, that it can have on someone's life.
