This drawing project involved introducing (or reintroducing, depending on each student's past experience) paraline drawing systems and using the convention of plan projection specifically to represent our classroom and possibly the surrounding spaces of the 9th floor (putting our workspace in context). The students were grouped into teams at the outset and asked to take measurements from the room using very minimal/low-tech tools. We ended up using our feet--in actuality the shoe of one person from each group--as a measuring device and got surprisingly similar numbers. Instead of using scale rulers we made our own from cardboard, also with surprisingly similar results. One shoe length equaled one unit of measurement on the ruler.
