Mr. Idikkula Varughese (Kochukunju) of Virginia was born on October 19, 1931 and passed away peacefully at the age of 81 in the evening of October 31, 2012 at his home in Fairfax, VA. He was one of four children of Chandy Idikula and Annamma Idikula of Pulichimamveetil, Karakkal. His wife is Annamma Varughese from Cheruvazhakunnel family in Ranny.
Mr. I. Varughese worked for the government military service in India in various capacities and retired from service in 1981. He came to United States in 1984 and worked as a machinist in Philadelphia. He was an outstanding Christian, who regularly attended church and never missed his morning and evening prayers. He served as the Trustee of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, Karakkal, before leaving India. He was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Philadelphia prior to moving to Maryland where he served as the Trustee for several years. He also served as the Accountant for St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, Washington, DC. He was an upright man of integrity and honesty. Among his numerous qualities were his mild manners and gentle nature. His leisure pursuits included walking, and reading.
During his lifetime, Mr. Varughese commanded great respect from those who knew him best. Several of his most positive attributes stemmed from his immense faith in God even when he was bedridden for several years. He was prepared to leave this world and his prayer during that time was “Son of David, have mercy on me”. He will be sorely missed by his family, relatives and friends. Mr. Varughese is survived by his wife (Mrs. Annamma Varughese) and two children (Mr. P.V. Alexander and Mrs. Ann Mathews), his son-in-law (Mr. Thomas Mathews), his daughter-in-law (Mrs. Bindu Alexander) and grandchildren (Reuben, Mathew and Rachel).
