1. Teide National Park has a unique and quite an astonishing landscape. Revered by astronomers as one of the best places in the world to observe the center of our galaxy all year round, it was on my 'must visit' list of places to experience.

The climate in Tenerife lends itself perfectly to astronomy. It has some of the most clement and predictable weather cycles of anywhere in the world, with something in the region of 350 days a year of clear skies, you can see why this is the perfect home for one of the worlds most renowned observatories, the Teide observatory, and at over 3000 metres above sea level it has the perfect vantage point for observing the skies above us.

I visited in a time when there was a serious forest fire on the island. This presented me with some unique opportunities to capture the smoke from the fires from various landmarks. A tragedy as it affected 2000 hectares (5000 acres) of land. Just another moment when mother nature reminds you that she is in charge.

  2. This film was shot mainly around the Tromvik area of Northern Norway at approximately 70 degrees North.

Tromvik is located right in the heart of the aurora belt and because of this even quiet displays of the Aurora Borealis will always be visible overhead on clear nights.

I was very lucky in the time that I visited in that a CME (coronal mass ejection) from the sun hit on the first night I arrived. The earths magnetic field reverberated for the entire week that I was there and I was lucky to witness strong displays every night.

The Aurora Borealis is the most beautiful natural phenomenon I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. I love astronomy, and for me there is nothing more tranquil that watching our own galaxy rise but the Northern lights was quite a different experience, one that was in some ways even more humbling.

I was fascinated with how the aurora changed so quickly, from rolling like a never ending curtain of soft light stretching, weaving and contorting itself across the Arctic sky, to sharp fingers of green and red piercing the black to its own percussive rhythm.

A friend of mine spoke to a native Norwegian shortly before I embarked on this trip and he told him that Norway "is good for the soul" And after visiting I could not agree more.

  3. Time-lapse film shot in Australia with a selection of shots from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. I spent three weeks driving from Melbourne to Brisbane with good friends capturing the Southern stars and nature along the way. This was the first time I had visited Australia and also the Southern hemisphere, the scenery and stars were quite breathtaking! Such a different sky and the milky way is so strong in comparison the the Northern hemisphere. I cannot wait to get back down there and do some more shooting and catch up with old friends again.
