I was drawn to the Mississippi gulf coast the summer of the great spill. I wanted to tell the stories of those touched by it and to try and get the real story of what was happening. It didn't end up that way. Whoever was in charge closed down access to anyplace there was oil. An island off the Mississippi coast was supposedly covered in oil and wounded wildlife but it was off limits to all civilians. Even if I had access to a boat or aircraft it was unlikely I could get there, or anywhere the oil had touched.

Consequently, stories were limited. But it happened to be the 5th anniversary of hurricane Katrina and Mississippi's gulf coast was celebrating the recovery. Those stories were the more amazing.
