During East Street Arts' events in Chapeltown, utps.org.uk/ , I took a cycle ride across Leeds. The resulting slitscan takes the journey from Leeds Metropolitan Universities Headingley campus across the city. This is an incomplete render of the first section of the journey.
A partnership project with organisations based on the Quarry Hill site, Leeds. Each of the organisations (Yorkshire Dance, Leeds College of Music, Red Ladder, Phoenix Dance Theatre, East Street Arts, West Yorkshire Playhouse amongst others) individually invited artists to apply.
This brought together an exciting mix of artists across art forms to take part in a three day interdisciplinary workshop facilitated by Wendy Houstoun.
The aim was to explore new territory, speak each other's language and find new approaches to interdisciplinary practice with no pressure on final outcome.
Our first Artist Residency 2014 launches in the Project Space at Patrick Studios with French artists, Arnaud Verley and Philémon (Société Volatile), who have developed a sculptural work inspired by the concept of Augure (a seer).
Combining the spectacular with the altogether absurd, Philémon and Arnaud have constructed an impossible idea. Using the character of Icarus as the basis for a structure onto which they can ‘project anything’, they leave you to interpret the situation.
A tarred and feathered man is suspended. A moment in which everything can happen.
