For nearly 200 years, The Macallan Distillery has been producing a range of single malt Scotch whiskies crafted in the Speyside region of Scotland. Macallan has long been highly regarded and often awarded for its sherry oak- and bourbon oak-aged whiskies, with varieties designated by barrel age and type.
In a recent event at Urban Grape in Boston's South End, we filmed a unique tasting of Macallan whiskies featuring 12, 15, 18 and 21 year-aged bottles from both its Fine Oak and Sherry Oak series. The tasting was led by Charlie Whitfield, The Macallan Brand Ambassador – North East America, and included a special opportunity to sample some of the finest whiskies that Macallan offers, and for customers to have purchased bottles engraved as gifts for friends and family, or perhaps for one's own bar or cellar collection.
Watch as Whitfield weaves us through the tasting, describing the whisky-making process, aromas, and palate notes for each variety. And while a skilled artisan engraves bottles in the background, Whitfield shares a bit of history on the distillery and offers consumers a brief tutorial on proper tasting techniques.
Many thanks to Whitfield and, of course, TJ and Hadley Douglas of Urban Grape for having us in for this wonderful event!
