A bikepacking overnighter under the full moon a week after the winter solstice.
Filmed with a Panasonic GH2 and the Panasonic 20/1.7, Olympus 45/1.8 and Olympus 14-150 lenses, as well as some short clips with the Contour Roam action camera. Star time lapse photographed with a Canon S90.
Chapter One of the five-part short film Cold Rolled: Marquette Michigan's Snow Bike Route, an action documentary from Clear & Cold Cinema, Salsa Cycles and TravelMarquetteMichigan.com that will explore the history and progression of winter cycling culture in the adventure-loving Lake Superior harbor town of Marquette, Michigan.
Marquette's Noquemanon Trails Network has nearly perfected equipment and techniques used to launch its Snow Bike Route, a 15-mile winter singletrack developed for fat tire bikes. The fast narrow trail features flowy terrain, steep descents and large bermed turns. It's believed to be the first trail of its kind--but more importantly, it's pretty fun.
Chapter One features riding along an ungroomed section of trail that is often packed by foot traffic from Marquette's active population. This section of trail follows the Dead River and passes under a leaky water pipe that forms curtains of ice in the winter months.

I mounted a DSLR to various parts of my bike and rode around Washington Park. It was much more difficult than I thought. The camera and grip gear was almost always either in the way of pedaling, in the way of steering or in a place that picked up a lot of vibrations. I was using one Manfrotto magic arm. Perhaps a second would have helped.
Went out for a ride with my trusty old canon 550d/ t2i stuck on the back of my bike, along the Union Canal in Edinburgh (Scotland)
I then decided to dig a bit deeper into the 'Toy Boxes' of FCP X to get some learning done! This video is the result.
I used a manfrotto magic arm & a tokina 11-16mm wide angle lens ...that's it really :D
p.s. No actual drugs were used whilst making this video ...except coffee of course!
