1. The SXSW Audience Award winner BUILDING HOPE tells the inspiring story of The Nobelity Project's partnership with a rural African community to build the area's first high school. Through drought, flood, and fundraising challenges, the film chronicles the construction of Mahiga Hope High School and the connection between a thousand people in the U.S. and an African community working to create a better future for their children.
An inspiring story of those who believe education shouldn’t end after the 8th grade, this is the third of Turk Pipkin's trilogy of feature docs that began with NOBELITY and ONE PEACE AT A TIME. (And yes, Turk is most often recognized as having played that narcoleptic guy on THE SOPRANOS.)
Also appearing are Willie Nelson, Cameron Sinclair (Architecture for Humanity), and Auma Obama (sister to President Obama). The soudttrack includes music by Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, Ayub Ogada, Afro Celt Sound System, Eliza Gilkyson and Kat Edmonson.
In addition to film festival awards and critical acclaim ("Red bull for the humanitarian soul," said the Austin Chronicle), Building Hope has already inspired viewers to help the Nobelity Project partner with 17 additional schools in Kenya to build classrooms, libraries, water systems and science labs.
