When making this video, I wanted to use the beat of the audio (Lunar Incident) to match it with edits of the video or certain parts of clips. The four clips I used all connected in my mind because they all had a point of impact and what happens after. I think that I combined these clips in a way that makes sense and keeps order, while cutting and rearranging certain parts.
For this film, I had three main objectives/themes that I attempted to accomplish. The first objective was to make everything feel like it was either at night, or in some type of reverse world. I used the “solarize effect” to portray this theme. My next objective was to play with the distortion to initiate certain effects. The fish eye effect made the city feel like it was expanding and retracting, while the “glow” effect progressively brightened the display. Finally, my effects eventually became my transitions, which was my final goal. Instead of using transitions, I linked the effects of one sequence to the next. If I had more time I would attempt to add even more distortion.
When I was creating this video, I wanted to make it about my move from New Jersey to Minnesota and how I like better in Minnesota than New Jersey. Though there was no change directly in the video showing my move, I wanted to show that I liked where I lived now in Minnesota more than in New jersey by having the peaceful wilderness and music. If I had more time, I would have added more effects and transitions to the video. I would have also liked to edit my video a little more and add a second song and more clips.
This film that I created, “The Drastic Change”, is a short film that tells the story of my life before Blake and after. Before I went to Blake, I went to school in New Prague, Minnesota, population roughly 700. Life was easy and carefree, and things were country and simple. However, when I came to Blake, I was thrust in a world of fast moving cars, masses of homework, and tall buildings. For a kid who was born in the country, this was a drastic change. The video represents the feelings of change. In the beginning of the video, the music is slow paced and country, and the video shows beautiful landscapes and nature. This represents my life in New Prauge. There is a brief transition in the video that shows a storm, which shows the chaotic period of switching schools. After the transition, the music is hard rock and fast paced, and the videos show the city and fast paced life, which I was thrust into.
I made this movie with two main themes. The first is going from high to low (hence the title). It starts out with the sky, they the top of a mountain, then in a valley, then over a city, then in the city. The second theme was humanity/civilization/life. The movie starts out where no human can walk, there is no life pictured, just clouds. The second Picture is of the top of a mountain, here at least, there are trees. Then there is a valley, and in it there is a golf course. It is a subtle sign of human influence, where humans have altered the terrain. Then it is over a city, an obvious sign of human impact. Finally, there is a shot in a busy street, where humans are most noticeable. The tranquility of the sky is gone and replaced by the hustle and bustle of the city.
