1. Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) were introduced nearly 30 years ago. The device is designed to administer an electrical shock to a sudden cardiac arrest victim in order to restore a normal heart beat. Since introduction, AEDs have been remarkably effective at saving lives. Reasonably priced, they are also easy to use. Businesses in King County, WA, however, are not purchasing AEDS nor are they registering their device with the Emergency Medical Services Division of Public Health – Seattle & King County (EMS/PHSKC). EMS/PHSKC engaged Weber Shandwick to develop a comprehensive communications program – The Shockingly Simple Campaign – aimed at increasing awareness of AEDs and AED registration across the King County business community. Initial qualitative and quantitative research suggested that awareness of AEDs is relatively low among business leaders, as well as the general public.

  5. The Iowa Department of Public Health’s Gambling Treatment program, 1-800 BETS OFF conducted interviews with Iowa gambling treatment providers and also with gamblers in treatment which revealed there is quite a bit of apprehension when first calling 1-800-BETS-OFF. Many put off making the first call because they are not sure what will happen and they do not know who they will be speaking with. BETS OFF wanted problem gamblers to feel comfortable in calling, knowing they will be speaking with a provider in their area who can help them immediately.
