1. Donné Roberts returned for a second time (first time was the summer of 2007) to the community of Onanole to share his passion for the music of Madagascar (Malagasy music). Donné is a musical collaborator, a passionate musician and songwriter, and a very good guitarist. This house concert features Donné on lead guitar, rhythms, and vocals, along with fellow Toronto musicians David Woodhead (bass, Australian banjo); Walter Maclean (percussion), and Shelley Coopersmith (violin). All are terrific musicians in their own right.

You'll hear Madagascar rhythms, Donné's voice range, and some beautiful individual instrumentation from each artist. You'll also see Walter lead a fun audience interactive percussion piece. On a deep winter's evening in Manitoba, there is nothing finer than music that you can't stop moving to. Thank you to Donné and his band members for a great visit.

Earth Rhythms creates unique experiences including musical workshops and concerts as part of its innovative repertoire of Canadian experiences. Please call us if you are interested in having something magical created for your group if you are visiting the Riding Mountains of Manitoba. earthrhythms.ca

  2. A delightful troubadour style run-along song about the Halifax Farmer's Market - the old one, but endearingly about the traditions of going to the market (including the new one)…on a Saturday morning.

  3. Peter Katz (peterkatz.com) is a Canadian singer and songwriter with many gifts. His songwriting is exceptional and his musicality is beautiful, complementing a voice that is full and has a great range. Listen to the audience harmonies that he coordinates and his looping and how he uses loops to intensify the listening experience. This is part 2 of 2. Earth Rhythms (earthrhythms.ca) is very proud to feature Canadian songwriters as part of our travel experiences.

His songwriting is exceptional and his musicality is beautiful, complementing a voice that is full and has a great range. His generosity is immense. Being at a house concert is a listening experience. Peter was on a cross-Canada tour; this was his only Manitoba stop. We were privileged to experience his stories and songs. This is part 1 of 2. 5. A selection of songs from Keri Latimer (nathanmusic.ca/biography.html), singer/guitarist performed at Poor Michaels Bookshop, Art & Café in Onanole, Manitoba. Canada.
Keri is a member of an outstanding Winnipeg based band called Nathan. This rare solo gig by Keri captures her singing, playing her guitar, and also a few moments with an instrument she is well-know for playing, the Theramin. Thanks Keri, for allowing this "cloud post" of a few of your songs. Featured in this video is the Manitoba song that Keri wrote for the CBC Songquest 2010, called Mountain Road named for the road and its stories.

I love live music - particularly in terms of singers and songwriters who write original music and then perform either solo or with traveling musicians - especially in small venues. This form of live, roots, and folk music is steeped in originality, creativity, and offers up amazing surprises. We invite Canadian songwriters and musicians into our home on a regular basis, booking them well in advance, and inviting our community to attend for a fee. Sandwiched between sets, we often have a potluck of nutritious snacks featuring local and organic foods.

Fortunately, we are also part of the Home Routes House Concert series in Canada (homeroutes.ca). Sometimes, we hear about concerts in nearby cities or locations which we try to get to. Depending on the performer and the host and venue, we try to record the concert.

Shooting with a Canon Vixia HF100 and external Canon DM-100 stereo condensing mike provides for a great live music video recording with stunning sound. I hope that you enjoy some of these concerts and let others know about the wonderful songwriters and musicians that we treasure in Canada. Enjoy!
