I caught Erica in preparation for her 5-month, 2000-km, ski traverse from Vancouver, BC to Skagway, AK. All the mountain scenes are from our Denali Traverse (thingstolucat.com/denali-traverse)- Erica and Sarah Heck joined us for the exit.
This was my product from Carl Crum's 5-day Documentary Workshop, DocShops. I learned more during the workshop than I had in the previous two years of hacking on my own. Thanks to Erica, Sarah Heck, the APU gym, Baraba's Ballet Studio, Carl Crum, Slavik Boyechko, and Travis Gilmore.
This film follows five friends on a 30-day, 370-mile, self-supported traverse over the tallest mountain in Canada. The team starts by paddling inflatable boats on the ocean, then skis up and over Mt. Logan using the boats as sleds, then floats rivers back to the road system in Alaska. The film addresses the hardships involved, most notably an avalanche that caught two team members, but maintains a light and fun attitude and reverence for the incredibly beautiful wilderness. 12 min.
Smith joined forces with Victorian grower, gatherer, hunter and cook Rohan Anderson to build a pioneer-style cold smokehouse on his property just outside Ballarat. This short film by Melbourne-based production studio Commoner captures the vision of the smokehouse build and the story of Anderson’s motivation. A step-by-step account of the process was featured in Smith Journal volume four. Find out more about the project: http://bit.ly/NV2g9e Learn more about Smith: http://bit.ly/sDgUHh
