When we first learned of our assignment I immediately thought of hockey and soccer. I've been playing them my whole life so those sports mean everything to me. I chose my soccer cleats because I liked that I could suspend them at different levels by simply tying the laces together. I chose to do it outside because the lighting was beautiful at the time; the sun had just started setting and was shining on the front side of my house. Shots from the back of my cleat showed the sun peaking through which I loved because it gave light to the cleats and looked good. The sound for my video was chosen because of my title: Swoosh. The title came from the fact that my cleats are Nike and the logo is a swoosh. The swoosh gave me an idea of a whirring or soft, tranquil sound such as waves crashing. Using FreeSounds I was able to find the wave sound that worked nicely.
When creating this film, I started out with a choice between two objects. One a very old lacrosse stick, that was probably 50 years old, or a family heirloom. I was leaning towards filming the lacrosse stick since it is my favorite sport though I chose to film the family heirloom. I made this choice because the heirloom had more interesting aspects to it. Also I liked the story of how we obtained it. When my grandpa bought a farm, he found the heirloom one of the barns. And a couple years later, he gave it to us. When creating the film, I wanted to include the aspect of not showing what the object it until the very end. In other words, I wanted the viewers to possibly not know the object is in the film until the end.
I decided to do my hockey skates after Mr. Jolton told us it should be something personal because hockey skates are personal to the person you havet to get get them fitted to your size and can get them to conform to your foot when you buy them. So they are very personal to the person buying them and as well as them being personal they should be one of the most important pieces of hockey gear you own. That can help or hinder your ability to complete the goal you are striving for.
I filmed a coin that i got when i was a kid. It is all silver and specially made to have reflective/mirror-like qualities. I thought it would be interesting, especially for lighting. I started out with a few clips of the coin in shadow, i did this intentionally because i didn't want to fully reveal the coin until the music hit its climax. This fits with my theme of "a new dawn", the sun isn't fully visible until it has fully risen. I chose the title "a new dawn" because the coin reminded my of immigrants who came to America in search of a new life, and they were greeted by the statue of liberty, which is similar to the lady liberty on the coin. I ended with a shot zooming out of the coin, which is now in shadow again, i did this because the sun always sets, even on life, even on America.
