Tonnie Rozier, Owner of Tonnie’s Minis cupcakes retail store in Teachers Village, and resident of Teachers Village with his family. Tonnie was originally from Harlem and the Bronx. He first considered opening a store Teachers Village in 2013 and it became his official home in 2016 when he opened his store and fell in love with a three bedroom apartment that he and his wife and children share. His favorite Teachers Village moment is that the day they were moving in with his daughters when three teachers saw the girls carrying boxes out of the car. The teachers walked the boxes upstairs to help his family into their apartment. He felt there was a real sense of community right from the beginning.
Cory Cuffee, Great Oaks School former tutor, now teacher, and resident of Teachers Village. Cory has lived almost 2 years at Teachers Village, and one of the best things about living there is that he has to walk not even a minute to work, which brings down the cost of travel. He says it’s very convenient to both live and work there. His favorite Teachers Village moment happened every Sunday last year when a group of tutors from Great Oak School came to his apartment for Sunday dinner each week. They would all cook together and gather around and eat and have fellowship, sharing information and stories about teaching, living, and working in Newark. Cory would definitely recommend friends and fellow educators to move to Teachers Village. He came from North Carolina where everyone was friendly and yet he says it feels like home up here now-- all one big community focused on educating our youth.
