These are some of the excerpts from my work on ABC's 20/20 for the Steubenville Football Player Rape case. This was a fascinating look at how social media is changing the world. The interviews with Ma'Lik Richmond and then his guardians, the Agresta's was recorded with 3 Schoeps CMC MK-41's. The impromptu interview with the parents of Trent Mays was recorded with a Schoeps CMIT5U that I flew manually.
Having an exclusive interview with the President of United States is one of those gigs that you really earn! This time around I selected two Sennheiser MKH 416's to give me just a bit more reach then I normally need. This interview is also a great example for why its important to deliver a good mono mix. In this context when I say mono mix I'm referring to recording a split track but I listen to the headphones in mono and mix that way. This insures a decent product if somebody just hits play and lets the 2 tracks just go as is. The interview was turned around really quickly and my mix is what went on the air. Trying to decide just how aggressively to ride the mix is always a challenge. :-)
A look into the realities of texting and driving with Rock Centers Kate Snow. This is also a wonderful example of using overhead microphones to record 2 on 1 interviews. In this case I selected 3 Schoeps CMC MK41's and mixed with the Sound Devices 664.

What a wonderful experience working with Dominique and her family was. The interviews were all recorded with my usual style of booms. All with Schoeps CMC MK41's. It turns out Dominique had a sister she had no idea about!
Production sound mixer Thom Shafer shares examples of his work and some behind the scenes tales! "These clips have been shortened to highlight only the sound I recorded".
Heads up: the shoutbox will be retiring soon. It’s tired of working, and can’t wait to relax. You can still send a message to the channel owner, though!
