On Nov. 20, 2011 LINC hosted its largest Adult Chess Tournament. Among the 58 players were 9 LINC staff members who completed the 2011 Fall LINC Chess Academy. The new LINC Chess Coaches will take their new skills and teach students in after-school programs how to play.
Students from Maplewood and Chouteau elementary schools in the North Kansas City School District are participating in LINC Chess. The schools are just 2 of 26 LINC Chess sites around the city. LINC believes that chess is a great way for children to learn and think strategically. The programs use chess to enhance students' self-confidence, thinking skills and academic achievement.
Students in LINC chess programs regularly compete in local tournaments. The next LINC Chess Tournament is Saturday, Dec. 1st at Gladstone Elementary, 335 North Elmwood Ave., Kansas City, MO 64123. Learn more at kclinc.org/chess
