So, not only am I performing brand new material, but I was asked to host the show for the 2nd time. Good stuff.
I think the set went ok, after you get past my jibber-jabber and stupid hand gestures. It obviously needs work, but it's comforting that there are some jokes of value buried there.
I tend to stay away from controversial jokes, for two reasons:
1. I think I can get a laugh without resorting to shock value.
2. I'm not sure I'm a good enough comic to pull it off without looking like an ass.
That being said, the best reaction I got was from a joke that I felt toed the line. It's important to note that even after performing for seven months that I have no idea what I'm doing.
I also had some pretty good stuff in between sets, but it's much easier to record six minutes than it is to record two and a half hours. :(
Came in 2nd. Not too shabby. I don't know what the hell I'm doing with my hands here, I'm going to blame the absolutely insane amounts of cold medicine flowing through my veins at this point. Regardless, this is probably the best set I've done in my 6 months of doing comedy. I'd like to thank everyone who came out. Thanks for watching!
My brother bought me a Sony HD Handycam for my birthday and this is my first time filming myself with it. I think it's decent, certainly much better than my dang cellphone.
I feel reasonably confident about this set, although I still fall back on swearing as a crutch too much. That's definitely something I need to work on.
Also, my wife gave me some solid advice. She said, 'People don't laugh as much as you think they should and it throws you off and you need to get over it because it's ALWAYS going to happen.' She's right, and I thank her for pointing that out to me.
I felt like the audience was dead for the entire show tonight. 11 comics on stage for over an hour and nobody was giving us any love. Nights like that are the hardest. You can tell about a minute into my set that I'm already over being on stage. So that was fun. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of this set at all, but who knows; go back, rewrite it, do it again, get it right.
This is my 20th time on stage! Whee! Anyway, my brother and his girlfriend had come to town to watch me perform, so that was fun. I have no idea why it's so loud, but it happens, eh. I think this is a decent set, but yet again, I rely on saying 'fuck' too much. I really need to get over that hump of using curse words when I think I'm falling apart. Anyway, thanks so much for watching, hope you enjoy.
